occasionally in the instant fuel economy on my trip computer in my au fairmont, the reading jumps from 8/10/whatever its doing while not flooring it, to like 40something for half a second. it does this a couple of times in say a 5-10minute trip. its not a big deal and it wouldnt affect economy any significant amount but im just interested if mine is the only one that does it, and if its normal etc?

I would worry if the average l/km is doing that.

It could just be bumps in the ground shaking the needle or sensor.

some of those inst trip computers are unreliable as they cannot keep up with the signal they recieve from the ecu... But in most cases they are pretty close to the mark on trips.... some of them are just slow to adjust..

my el fairmont on the highway sitting on cruise at 100km/hr. Trip meter at (instant) sits between 5L-9L depending if i am going up a hill or down one, all day everyday, never jumps up. always a solid reading.

Yeah so there is something wrong with your car..........

Cheers Luke.
