alright i bought a cat back 2.5" lukey exhaust with 2 mufflers (was hoping for a hot dog but got a muffler instead.....u guys reckon i can swap them when i get them fitted?) but im not going to get the exhaust in until i get pacemaker extractors (hopefully comp) and the catalytic converter. now i have read that it doesn't make a difference if u use the old cat or the new cat....well noticeable difference anyway.......but i decided to get a hi-flow cat from ebay.....cause its only 155 incl postage. the catch is that the cat has no flanges....so its just the cat itself. meaning i need to weld in some tubing as well as flanges. was just wondering if its hard to get some 2.5" piping and weld some flanges on and then onto the catalytic converter? if its not hard ill do it myself but if it is im going to get it done by a exhaust specialist....how much would it cost for them to the job?

Depends if you have the gear and the knowledge to weld. I'm guessing if you did then you'd have answered your own question. I only payed $200.00 for my hi flow cat and that was fitted!

cool guys. i hope welding on flanges won't be too hard or expensive for the mechanics to do. if its cheap then i might as well get the cat converter and get the flanges put in. cheers everyone

hey just another question.........im planning on getting extractors. now pacemaker comps is what im after.....was just wondering how much they are usually (not installed).....i prefer to try and install this myself. is there a big difference between the comps and "performance" extractors? (btw i was looking on ebay...performance one is going for 350 or so)

Remmeber postage is quiet hiugh on the ebay.ciom,au ones, but still there about as cheap as you'll find. And also remember you'll have to alter the length of your exhaust for them as there really long. |

yeah i asked them and they said they would.....was going to buy lowered springs from them but instead i might get some shocks from them since i got springs. =D buying bulk gives cheaper price too. phong =P~ EDIT: btw twr7cx i always look at the postage price before i buy something. thanks for the heads up though =D

hey phong, from what the exhaust people just told me, there will be a noticeable increase in sound once the extractors and cat have been put in and so they also advised me not to get the hotdog till i've heard it with the extractors/cat. Also, it is imporant to get a high flow cat unlike some people have mentioned purely from information from about 4 exhaust shop's + general knowledge. If your whole system is 2.5" and you've got a 2.25" cat (or watever it is), then the whole system will be restricted to that. I think someone in the induction piping thread debate/war used the metaphor a chain is only as strong as its weakest link which pretty much sums it up.

Ha ha your last line is quoting me! If you go to a decent exhaust shop they should reuse the factory cat, when tehy reuse it they should, as I said, if they are a decent exhaust shop, chop the 2 1/2" flanges and piping off and fit 2 1/2", the actually body of the cat converter is the same size and flows the same regardless, so there's no difference in overall flow rat between a factory cat that's been modified and a bought 2 1/2", aside from the fact that you'll save a couple hundred bucks!!! However if your cats old, i.e. over 100,000km's, then it's probably shagged and in need of replacement anyways, so good idea to do so. Ever since the 1980's when cat converters first started becoming common place in vehicles, Ford have actually been on the lead of high flowing converters, even in comparison to aftermarket companies. I borrowed a book from the guy who built my previous XC with the 302 in it and it actually had flow rate comparisons of the top aftermarket companies at the time making converters and the top manufacturers, and Ford was never outside of the top 3, admitadely the book would be almost 20 years ago, but from what a lot of people have said it hasn't changed much and Ford's factory cat converters are still very good flowing for a factory item. |

yeah......i was going to get a new 2.5" cat anyway....my old one is uhhhh passed its used by date. so hopefully i can some up together the money for the exhaust system. cheers smiley =D and im keeping me muffler
