Is there no one out there that has had the rear muffler replaced with a resonator?
I really need to know what effect it will have as once it's done there's no going back.
I've heard it made a huge difference to an XR6, but it doesn't have the same exhaust system a standard Falcon does.

yeh glenn you are correct. Mechanically a stock XR6 is identical to an XT/Futura/Fairmont including exhaust and PCM programming.

What effect are u looking for in replacing the rear muffler with a resonator? aren't they near enough to the same thing?

the only difference in the 2 exhausts is the angle the pipe comes out of the rear of the rear muffler (ie. XT points down and XR has a chrome tip thru the bumper)

also lets not forget the 6 speed auto/manual in BF XR6's

Yes but XR's come with a sports exhaust which is part of why an XR6 is quicker and sounds a little better than a stock BA Falcon. I'm wondering what I can expect from the modification as it is being done on Saturday. I've had it done to my BA V8 3valver, and the resonator just keeps the whole set up way quieter than I wanted. So I'm having it cut out on Saturday, refitted to my wife's BA 4L and a straight pipe out from the primary muffler on my V8 hopefully raising up the noise level. $500 all up for both cars, am I wasting my money?

I've heard my mates XT with the rear muffler removed, and replaced with straight pipe.
It sounds very good, the DOHC motors have a really nice note.
His is by no means loud (by my standards.. :S)
The cost of fitting the resonator itself would be f**k all, you are paying mostly for the new tailpipe the way I'm reading it.
Sounds a little pricey IMO.

im a ford mechanic and im telling u the two vehicles have EXACTLY the same exhaust save for the 3in long outlet pipe from the rear muffler. They are No Quicker (if anything a shmidgin slower due to extra weight) and sound exactly the same.
