Hi all, I just rebuilt the engine for my new daily and im having some issues.
When Its idleing it runs like it has a lumpy cam in it and has a miss when I pick the revs up. I checked it with a timing light and its running about 30° retarded but it runs even worse when I move it to 10° advanced. I have replaced the harmonic balancer, the dizzy, coil, plugs and leads, timing chain and guides. I have checked the cam timing reset the dizzy about 7 times now and im completely stumped, any help would be much appreciated as its starting to do my head in

Cheers,
Tomo

when you are checking the timing. are you setting it to diagnostic mode first?

No I havn't got it in diagnostics mode, forgot all about it lol. The problem is though when I try to advance it to 10° before tdc it stalls and wont fire again untill I retard it

...adjust your timing during diagnostic mode and then post your results. You shouldn't be advancing/retarding the timing out of diagnostics...

Yea also did you line the mark on you're oil pump gear with the one on the crank gear, if not you're timing gonna be way out and possible so far you cant advance or retard it enough.

Well I pulled the head back off the other day after checking everything mentioned and whatever else I could think of, turns out it had a couple of bent valves. So im currently replacing them and I will post results when I put it all back together.

Cheers,
Tomo

why did it bend valves?
surely you didn't fit the head with valves already bent.

Na valves where fine when I put it together. dunno what happened to be honest, there is marks on thr pistons wh erd the bent ones have touched. I think the timing chain might have been a bit loose and the bloke who machined the head said that this is the last shave that could be done on it. Might have machined it down a bit too far maybee?

Im not fussed about bending more, for the price I payed for the valves I think its worth giving it another go. Plus ive got another head sittin here anyway.

Cheers,
Tomo.

you obviously had the valve timing set way wrong to bend valves

With an attitude like that you shouldn't be building engines.

Do you have a welder by any chance?
