But my car is unregistered and i need to get a rwc. So if i get the hotdog but leave the standard headers on for the moment it should be ok.

Dunno bout the laws in Vic, but I have never been pulled up in QLD - just tell the zorst mob to put the muffler on it then after road worthy get em to chop it out...
Shouldn't cost you too much to go through the exercise...
