Hi guys just wondering if red valve springs were standard in EF XR6 heads, I was under the impression they werent as I was told my a guy I know who seems to know alot about el/ef xr6s and he said it is not standard and is normally the sign of a rebuild/ recondition. But then today I pulled the tappet cover off another ef xr6 I am wrecking and realised it also had the same painted looking valve springs, just seeing if they were infact factory or if they are a sign of reco etc, both engines are high kms but running perfect, good performance, no smoke etc.

Cheers

Thanks for help guys, I am still under the impression it has had a rebuild/ freshen up, after removing the head I noticed slight bore marks in the cylinders of the block which looked I doubt would be there unless it has had a freshen up.

Cheers

Just some useful (or useless) info on Tickford valve springs....

I was told this by a cylinder head reconditioner when I got my EF head recoed (so apologies if it's incorrect). Apparently, when Ford tested valve springs for stiffness, they kept the top 10% for Tickford engines. Hence the reason they're not much stiffer than standard springs.
