i had a crack at removing my fuel filter... but by the looks of it..its very old and looks rusted.
im a bit worried about rounding the heads..i just wanna know how to actually remove it. ie what do i need to turn with the spanner etc. ive soaked it with rp7, so ill give it a bit of time to settle in. but yer, how do i acutally remove the filter? cheers

make sure u use pipe spanners if u have any doubts about it... 19mm and 14mm

yeh, pipe spanners,
tryed mine myself with normal spanners, nut started to round so straight off to the local mech to avoid any problems. he even did it on the spot for free.

uh, i think their about a 3/4 complete spanner arent they? shaped a little different, lock onto the nut properly

If they have already started to strip, best bet is 2 pair of vice grips, one on pipe, other on filter. Sometimes they are so stuck even pipe spanners start to slip.

i just used my normal spanners and i got mine open by having one spanner face one way.....the other spanner in the other....and then had both in one hand and squeezed my hand...like i would using a pair of scissors and the thing undid itself.....took a bit of effort but it worked in the end. nut hasn't worn out.

i started rounding the nuts off with normal spanners, ended up using a pair of multi-grip pliers set to the tightest level possible. The factory steel fuel filter is always a bugger to remove.
Makesure you replace it with a ryco alloy one though, replacemant steel ones will only leak.

I cant remember the exact name for the pipe spanners. But they are very useful on the BTR's.
Mine came off nice and easy. I bet id never been changed in its 270thou km life

ive got the motorpro one AFG55AA
so which way is the filter spose to turn... towards the left hand side of the car or away?

Make sure you unplug the fuel pump and start the car and let it die so there is no fuel pressure.
Just thought I'd add that as I didnt see it mentioned in either thread. |
