hey all, me again, so after getting the tickford put in, been having some really bad hunting issues. i have been told to check timing, but im not sure how to get to the dizzy, so i looked on other posts and am trying to reset it by shorting the pins, letting revs rise and fall for 2 mins etc

i know that i have to short the left top and bottom pin on the diagnostic plug, but im not sure if im doing it right? or if i have the correct plug? also when i do this, and the isc is disconnected it just stalls, it doesnt idle at all

could anyone possibly post up a picture of the two pins i need to short?

thankyou in advance

yeah top row, first pin from left and pin straight under that on the plug that is in the fuse panel.
dizzy, under the intake manifold isnt it? loosen the retaining bracket and turn it slightly, one way is advance and other way is retard.

pretty sure there is no need to disconect the ISC when setting timing unless you are adjusting the base idle.

ok. so we were playing around with the dizzy (figured out how to turn it) so we advanced it a little bit, we couldnt spin it much further around, with that we got a crap idle hunted from 600rpm to 1000rpm constantly (which has happened since getting engine swapped), but had some power when driven, so we spun it the other way, and we had improved idle (sat steadily at 750rpm) but the car had zero power, my foot was flat to the floor and the car went no where..

im a bit confused as to what i should do next?

got a timing light? makes it heaps easier. timing for the i6 is 10btc i think.

get the timing set to 10btc and see what happens.
have you checked the TPS voltage? could be the cause of the hunting idle?

TPS is throttle position sensor and its on the t/body, black plastic thing. there is a sticky in the v8 workshop, pretty much the same for i6 except the sensor looks a bit different.

a timing light is a light that flashes like a strobe light so you can line up the timing marks.

your hunting idle could also be a stuffed ISC.

providing the i6 only has two wires comeing from the TPS (cant picture an i6 TPS)
one wire is earth and other is power, cant remember the colours
with key on, engine off measure the voltage with a multimeter, should be as close to 1 volt as possible. eg .97/.98 volts.

pretty sure its the same deal with the i6, loosen mounting screws and twist it slightly but you will need a digital multimeter to read the voltage because if you go over 1 volt the ECU will be reading part throttle.
