Hi guys

I just had my head shaved on my 1994 ef 4.0 & ran into a problem fastening cam back in.I'm having problem getting bolts 4 & 8 (right hand side of pic) back in to hole slots seems to be a metal blockage stopping bolts getting into place,is it ok to drill the holes ? or are there different size bolts/threads tho i do remember having trouble getting them out I remember the bolts being bent from those 2 holes, any advice most appreciated

Make sure you have the HLA's in place properly, and the dowel holes are lined up as well.

And tighen then all down a little at a time un a spiral to bring the gear down evenly otherwise it'll warp and be a hastle.
But make sure all the HLAs are in correctly and sitting on the valves correctly as mentioned. Don't drill anything for christs sake

I think you have miss read what I wrote or maybe its the way I wrote it, I can only get 26 of the 28 bolts to sit in the holes even when free standing (no where near the head), holes number 4 & 8 on right hands side in pic, seem to be obstructed & bolts wont penetrate further enough to even touch the head, that's my problem.

Ah..right then.....did you disassemble the rocker gear??? If so, have you assembled it correctly???
If not, then you need to rotate the shafts a little.

If you put a little force down on them will it pop down, sometimes a couple don't sit in like you explained, I usually just give em a oust and they go through tho.

No cjh
didn't disassemble the rocker gear, new to this job/OHC & that's beyond me what are the hla's ?,will rotate shaft tho & give that a try
No didnt over heat the system , tho has I said before 2 bolts 4 & 8 I guess now, was hard to get out because they were bent when dissembling head for shaving.
tried putting pressure on bolts but that just damaged thread
Some questions might seem trivial but I'd rather ask you guys than go blind & its a great way to learn plus save stuff ups & money and I guess isn't that what this site is all about helping fellow ford owners.

thanks guys
but I might be back lol

thx cjh
I'm learning more & more I do a lot of reading & research on here about all subjects.
Now, with that shaft how do I rotate it when its inclosed? if I was to tighten down all the other bolts then turn engine over by hand would that rotate the shaft ?

kind regards
Dino
