Hey all

I've noticed that when in neutral the revs seem to drop very slowly, I first noticed this when I fitted a K&N Filter (the old one was so old it was grey)
[EDIT] It occured before I changed the filter as well, I just did not take too much notice of it
I punched the throttle (in Neutral), the revs rose as expected but they dropped pretty slowly, taking about 8-9 seconds to drop from 4K to the 750-800 idle. I tried it again today and the same thing happened.

I'm not one to notice this normally because I don't try to rev the car so maybe it's normal, but it just seems very strange, my old car (a manual 1992 celica) dropped its revs a lot faster than what this car does.

On that note, is it something that automatic cars do? It has the 4sp auto in it. If it helps, the car is a 2006 BF Mark I Futura.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated :)
[I could not find anything similar with the search function expect an XH ute, but if there is another thread that covers this please don't hesitate to point it out]

Hi Peachhead,

So before changing the filter this problem did not exist? What sort of filter was it originally (paper or foam)?
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for at least 1 hour, then doing the re-learn procedure?
Is it consuming excessive fuel?

Cheers Mick

The problem existed before the filter change as well, I'll edit the original to make that clear.

It was the stock type of filter, which I think is paper.

No I have not, will try that tomorrow.

No, normal fuel consumption.

Is this for just the 4sp autos or for all Falcons, is there a way to change it is so?

What is this re-learn procedure?

it is so unburnt fuel doesn't go out of the exhaust. emissions

To prevent dumping of unburnt fuel into the catalytic converters. Overtime, it will damage it, leading to costly repairs. The "rev hang" slows down the sudden drop in rpm to fully burn off all excess fuel

Okay, that makes a lot of sense, is there a way to change it though? I understand it's better for emissions but it's still annoying knowing it's like that.
Or if not get rid of it, as that may damage the cat, is there a way to quicken the speed the revs drop to at least a somewhat faster speed?

I guess you could get it tuned. But what a f**k around for a rev hang that only happens when you rev it in neutral

Yeah OK, I was hoping for something easier, but if all Falcons do that and you need a tune to get rid of it it is DEFINITELY not worth it. Thanks for your help
