hey guys ill give you the downlow on the wheel when i bought the car it had a scrubbing noise (sounded like metal on metal) coming from the left rear wheel when i drove at a slow speed, checked the break pad and it had a crack in it but still had plenty of life left in it so i changed the pads anyway and left the dust protecters off and the noise sort of left but there still was that faint noise anyway got new tyres put on it 2 days ago and the guy put the dust protector back on but i didnt pay attention well i did a skid today and hit the gutter and that noise is louder than ever what could it be? any suggestions besides "take the wheel of and look" i no that the only solution... ps. the disc is fairly smooth doesnt need to be machined for a while...

cheers mike

As per ya other thread, you prob have some damage there.

Could be anything from suspension, wheel axles/bearings to diff being stuffed. Gonna have to take it in to have it looked at

Wheel bearings are common, as are CV's and diffs.

Replaced my diff recently, and new CV's going in next week. cool $7k in parts. you could probably do better with 2nd handies, but then you don't know how good they are.

don't to skids on the road.

yep, another one of those threads. like the kid that wants a hidden turbo, or who was unlicensed & drove his car across a round about & stuffed the rear. or even the P platers bf i saw new years day thrown in to the trees. (everyone would have been fine but every panel was dinged up & it wasn't coming back on the road without a tractor.

recommendation, get a haynes or gregories manual & fix it yourself. other option is pay through the nose & dont complain about it. in either case, please learn from this

Haha, i know a guy who did this (wasnt me i swear) the cover surrounding the disc was rubbing onto the disc, take off the wheel and make sure it clears all moving parts

you see that BF on one tree hill that day? funny as because i know EXACTLY how the night must have gone. p plater got dads car, driving mates around, going from strath to the tower & said to his mates at the lower hairpin "WATCH THIS!"

*turns in front hard, over drives the fronts, understears off road to gravel gutter taking out direction arrow sign & small shrubs* car looked like it had been through a hail storm or something, no undamaged panel on it. people in side must have been ok

yeah i guess i could drive normal but im pretty sure when you guys were young (like me) driving around in your falcons (like me) yous couldn't wait to get her sideways its just a teenage thing to do and im not complaining about the s**t that wrecked on my car im just after some info on how i can fix it... im pretty sure every other P plater on this forum agrees with me.. some kids on here might not be the brightest of people like the one with the hidden turbo or the unlicensed kid driving over a roundabout but i dont think my thread is like those because im not a tart like them i just did a burnout the same burnout more than 90% of people on this this site have done "leaving a street and letting loose.

are you trying to justify what you did buy saying all other teenagers do it?

But to the O.P. to answer your question about the noise. Best case scenario, you've stuffed a wheel bearing, worst case, Diff

I'd say check your wheel bearings, diff gears etc. Anything that moves as the car rotates. May have also bent the axle if you hit it hard enough.

I hope you learned your lesson though...

so if its the wheel bearings is it an easy fix or would i have to get a mechanic to do it ruffly how much are they.. brother does most of my mechanical work hopfully he knows how to fix it...

if its the diff im already looking for a xr6 turbo diff so this might push me that little further to act upon it :p

Take it to a skid pan. It's cheap, you can cut sick til you blow the tyres, and you won't loose your license, get your car crushed, or do any damage - there's no gutters  .

But back on your topic. You've bent/broken something (hard to diagnose online with a "it makes a funny noise" symptom), and it'll cost ya. How much depends on what's broken. If you don't have the expertise to diagnose it yourself, take it to the pros. Cause f**k suspension may end up killing you. Not something to mess around with.
