Hi all just wondering how would I get oil out from the rocker gear threads without a air compressor?

Thanks.

Never heard of that, only thing it'll do it maybe, possible, on the very rare occasion, is give you a false torque reading. And that's usually just with the headbolts.

Make sure they are tight but not too tight cos they are known to snap. 25nm I believe is the tension

We snapped a couple doing a cam swap on an AU at normal torque settings. As we had no spares handy the guy just drove off with the snapped ones missing. A few months later he decided to put them back in and the guys at the Ford specialist wreckers told him to use a torque wrench with a smaller handle and they are always snapping them!

Oops - My bad. We snapped ONE on each AU cam conversion. Using a different torque wrench was the answer for these people. The one with the three foot long handle seems to over tighten.
:!:

And when they snap, they snap at the top (ie - head gets ripped off) and you can get the thread out of the rocker gear easy peasy.

hey guys got a little problem, replaced all lifters and got it all bolted down to 23nm (though in between 20-25 would be ok) and all is good except........2 bolts thread have seem to have striped and I was just wondering does that mean I've screwed me head/rocker gear?

its 2 on the exhaust side and they were fine when I was using the ratchet half turn trick till they all got finger tight and then I used the torque wrench, now I did the spiral sequence thing though thinking I missed these 2 and they got striped or something like that has when I took them out (noob thing to do when all others torqued down :() and they thread pieces on them.

so just wondering if its fixable with a tap and die to 'clean' these 2 threads?

thanks.
(smacking himself in the face....)

Yeah, tap a thread into it. You mean you have threaded the hole and not the bolt I presume?

Try putting a thread back into it, but the heads are alloy... Thought my XR6 head had a threaded bolt hole in the process of getting headers on after engine install. Had to chop the last 10mm of bolt off in the end as there was alloy debris in the hole but once this was clear and I replaced bolt with a different one it seemed to hold fine.

Although, as said previously, some people have run their cars for years with one or two bolts missing entirely.

Shhhhh.... Just don't tell anyone.

As long as the two threaded holes aren't on the same bit of rocker gear holder. In your case, with any luck, it has just damaged the top section of thread. You should be able to clean that up with said hole tap and find good original thread below.

WARNING - WHEN RELEASING CAM GEAR, UNDO A LITTLE HERE AND THERE. UNDOING ALL OF THEM, ALL THE WAY, OTHER THAN ONE WILL PROBABLY END UP STRIPPING THE LAST ONE A LITTLE.
