i have a quite loude ticking sound (more like Tack Tack Tack) that changes up and down with engine speed coming From my EA, a freind of mine sed it could be as simple as my oil inlet is blocked and not letting oil flow through to the rockers (or lifters) or just general poor oil flow, but after a quick search of this site i found lots of other stuff it could be - making me very paranoid :?

can anyone help?, ive heard this is a common problem with EA's (CFI) would it be easier to just buy a replacment topend (minus head of course) or am i parinoid over nothing.

cheers :)

I wouldnt know but i know my mates vt had that clacking sound increasing with revs and mechanic said the bottom end was cracked and needed a new engine. But many things can make clacking sounds and his was a holden.

i'd say you have a sticky hydraulic lifter. all you need to do is isolate which one it is or just replace them all. aftermarket they are about 19 bucks each. not too hard to do.
pretty sure its not your bottom end. changing oil will not fix the problem as it sounds like it is really stuck.

yea just took it to a mech at the wreckers to have it looked at, he sed it was the lifters that are stuck, still at least this gives me the motivation to finally get that rocker cover gasket fixed
