Hey guys, recently i have noticed that on idle my EF seems to "surge", it will drop in revs and then pick back up.I have also noticed that it seems to be running rich. Could a faulty map sensor cause this or is there another cause to my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Marty

Nah mate, no after market cam. Hunting definitely describes what is doing though.

when was the last time the MAF sensor cleaned? If you have a K&N filter, sometimes the oil from the filter comes off an catches itself in the MAF and can give false readings. Well I know the V8's have MAF's. Not sure on the 6's. Someone else can probably clarify.

few things u could try, take the idle air control valce off and give it a clean out. and mabye run a can of upper engine cleaner. dunno if it'll work in your case though but its wirth a shot n doesn't cost anything extreme. i think 20 bucks for the can.

Thanks for the tips guys but I've tried all of these things :? I'm thinking next step is I'm going to take the injectors off and give them a good clean and also replace the O2 sensor. I'm out of action for a while so I'll hopefully get around to it soon.

Mine does the same from time to time its an AU1.
Usually if I've been on the highway engine brake down to the lights on an exit then when I do the final clutch+brake sometimes it will drop down to ~400 RPM or so before picking up to the normal idle.

I figured it was either a small air leak around the (newly replaced) intake manifold gasket or the idle air valve sticking a bit. But I'd wager its an air leak, when I replaced the manifold it would hardly idle took it a few days of dropping back to idle before it would drop back and hit 750 RPM rather than 400, then back up to its usual 750.

When I got the car the IAV was frozen solid with black gunk and the idle was pretty rough cleaning that out made the idle nice again.

Thanks mate, but noob question time. What is the IAV? I replaced the idle speed control and it made no difference.

IAV=idle Air Valve (i think) should have 2 hex bolts holding it down. without looking, all i remember is its near the throttle body.

Really? That's great to hear because I'm planning on changing my O2 sensor when I'm back on my feet. Thanks a lot mate :)
