I have a RSpec1 rpd cam to put into my 4.0L EBII. the question is what size shims do i use and how many?

I phoned up ford and according to their mechanic they dont know wat shims are and they dont use them in the falcon heads :S

Anyway i phoned up a local auto shop and the guy made a few phone calls for me and told me there are 3 different size shims available:

1.6mm, 1.9mm and 2.4mm

So what size do i need and how many???

Thanx for ur help guys

Will.

well, ford are idiots then. there is a shim in every rocker arm from factory.

it should require one extra 1.9mm shim in every arm IIRC

What about for an Rspec 4 cam? What size shims would that have? And where would I get some (any idea of cost for like 5 or so shims?)

On the topic of shims, in the interest of learning more... what is the purpose of a shim?

I haven't come across shims before

would be best to find the old rpd cam install guide, it told you how to measure how many shims you required IIRC.

could be a case of buying a few and doing the number 1 intake and exhaust rocker arms and the rest should require the same number.
