My car wasnt getting much acceleration when i planted it and the mechanic told me that the kickdown cable had to be adjusted.

I thought kick down cables where only used on the older style transmissions. Arn't the shifts controlled by the Auto's ECU now days?

Maybe transmission is in limp home mode? Would explain no kick back at least anyway....

i'd be thinking limp-home mose as the speedo's not working either. check your fuses for a start.

I had a problem with my EB that the speedo would cut out randomly and when the speedo would cut out it would send the car into limp mode. Limp mode keeps the car in 3rd gear and doesnt change at all. Once you get the speedo fixed it should fix the rest.

Its most likely that you have a stuffed speedo sender, or that the gear has broken off the end of the sender. This would explain the lack of speedo, and since this signal is required by the ECU to control the Auto box it has put it into limp home mode, you should also be finding that even at a set of lights where the car is stopped its not in 1st gear, and doesn't change, just takes off VERY slowly as its locked in 3rd. A new sender/gear/wiring (depending on the cause) will fix both problems.
