well over the last week i replaced the head and head gasket on my car and put in a new cam etc, had it all back together ran it around for 30-50km or so various speeds etc, anyway where i was fixing it is about 150km outside of hobart where i live.
I was driving it home and it was all running real nice, then all of a sudden the oil pressure dropped to zero it beeped at me then 30 secs later it stalled.
I pulled over had a look couldnt see any obvious problems, stated her up again still had no oil pressure it was alright for about 5 mins then started making the horrible noise comnig from the hydraulic lifters, so we stopped the car again had a look was making some nasty noises by now.
checked oil had plenty in there it was very thin but the car had been running for half an hour.
when i opened the oil cap there was a fair bit of steam or white smoke that came out of there.
i let it cool down and after that it wouldnt start again! :(
now i have a few ideas of what it might be but i was hoping some others might have some input.
im thinkin either an oil pump or a problem in the timing chain system somewhere

sounds liek the oil pump has let go, hence the oil light

no oil pressure is BAD! liek REAL BAD

sounds like you have sized the motor... rebuild time :)

when u get it home u might be able to get it going
take out the plugs and pour some crc down the bores
let it soak for a bit
turn the engine over a few times... then replace plugs
and replace teh oil pump or pump drive
and start it

You kept driving it after the low oil pressure light came on?

How was he supposed to know that the oil pressure was fatally low? He checked the oil level and he had a sump full of oil. Its not everyday an oil pump s**t itself in a stocker out of the blue.

see those things commin out of the bottom of your torso?
As i said to a friend a couple of days ago when the coolant level warning went off in their EL and they then proceeded to fry their motor by keeping going, "what were you thinking? if any light comes on in my car, be it only the washer fluid reservior light, i pull over straight away and fix it."
