So,
I was driving home from work the other day and it was late at night, 2-3 am, so i gave it a bit along a empty road, then when i slowed down and stopped at the traffic lights, my car started shaking and fell to about 600rpm and almost stalls, i put it in N and it starts idleing normally. I have recently (within 3 months) rebuilt the head due to blowing a gasket . Anyone have any idea what is going on? My mate reckons torque convertor.. he could be right as my auto is rooted. It screams in 4th and changes like s**t (still waiting to put in the manual conversion sitting in my garage :P)

Cheers,
Mick

Im messing with ya man. Its possible its the torque converter if the box was dying you could have just killed it a bit more. Either that or a possible spark break down somewhere.

oh man, you had me fearing the worst... -_- thought that i would need to pull the head off again  just went out and checked the o2 sensor.. pulled it off and it seemed to run the same as it does normally, :? . Is my o2 sensor dead? would that explain my high fuel consumption and the shaky idle it has had for a while now?

Man unfortunately it could be heaps of things. Ill name a few i can think of that will cause bad idle.

-Intake manifold may be loose or the gasket is stuffed causing air leaks.
-spark plugs and/or leads could have broken down.
-Air filter is dirty.
-ISC controller on the throttle body can be dirty.
-Map sensor could be faulty.
-Cracked or loose air hoses.
-Bad fuel and dirty fuel filter.
-Im not a 100% on this but dirty battery terminals i think can effect idle.

If it were me id start of with changing spark plugs and cleaning the ISC and seeing how it goes.

defenatly replace the oxy sensor the get tired after 100 000 also get vaccume gauge, chck vaccume, spray carby cleaner around the vaccum hoses and inlet manifold if idle changes its sucking air somewere also try clamping off vacume hoses 1by1 vaccume is higher when in gear then nutreal because of load also bad engine mounts even though have no play can pass the vibrations through the car

I dont know if this will help but I was in a simular situation with my EA one night. I found out that 3 engine mount support bolts on the left side were missing and obviously the whole engine had sunk and was causing bad vibrations.

Something else to look for.

Hey mate did you say that when you pull up to the traffic lights in drive it starts shaking but when you put it in neutral it goes back to normal? Mine used to do the same thing and the problem was the engine mount on the driver's side. I got in replaced just last week and now it's all good.

Hope that helps
