Hey everyone,

My EF (auto) is shaking due to low idle when the transmission is on drive. It happens only when im stopped at the lights. The funny thing is when its on neutral, park or even reverse it sits perfectly.

I've had my injectors cleaned and car recently serviced, i even had the idle raised slightly but it didnt help..

Any ideas?

im guessing its nothing to do with your plugs/leads/idle. more something like driveline/engine or tranny mounts..
Someone with more experience wanna have a guess?

yep engin mounts...Theres 2 at the front of a EL EF...they r f**k hard as to get off tho...one is near ur dizzy on the passenger side...dont bother trying...and the other that is easy to get to is on the right near your exhaust...which basically means ur oxy cutting off the retaining bolts cos its fully rusted and near impossble to get off. Ive got the parts to do mine but didnt think about how hard it would be to actually remove them...hence mine still shakes while in drive.

Can't be the engine mounts, you'd feel it in all gears. I am thinking the gearbox may need to be serviced.. Are there any visible leaks etc? Also, go into more detail about the idle quality.. Make sure everything is attached properly, or even better, go back to the mechanics who did the injectors to fix the problem for you.

uglybob: its a custom kit, it was made by taking the moulds off a mustang cobra and making it suit an EF, ended up looking awesome. ill take some pics and post em up soon & definately try make it for the cruise!

drone: Gearbox and trans recently serviced, no leaks for sure.. Idle quality in all other gears cept drive is smooth and revs are constant. When its in drive, revs go about 100rpm lower than the rest of the gears do, when i move my steering wheel the revs jump a bit and the shakes stop for a brief second(which is a good sign). If i manually hold brake with one foot, and have accel on slightly to raise it the extra 100rpm it goes smooth again.

I'll definately get my mechanic have a good look, but i thought i'd get a heads up from someone who possibly had a similar prob and could save my mechanic spending a lof of time (and my money :p)

thanks again guys

i think voxace had the same sort of an issue - he disconnected his power steering sensor, and it all went back to normal... maybe give him a shout and ask him what his problem was and how he fixed it?

hehe see you on the cruise then! :P

Harmonic balancer may be on its way out.

It may be that putting in D reduces idle to a point where the balancer is not balanced. In N or P it may be that the higher revs are providing enough centrifugal force to make the balancer balanced...

most likely engine mounts.. the EF ones are s**t and alot of people with EFs will start to get this problem around now... the car will shake to s**t in drive gear... but should not shake in nuetral.... if this is the case then ur engine mounts are most likely fukt.... most probably only one of them so check which one it is hopefully its the exhaust manifold side..... LOL... the otherside is a b**ch to remove.... If its both then i would replace them with the rubber sort out of an EL

Did u use a pinch bar to check them??????
sometime the sache collapses in the mount itself but will still be stiff and will sit on the chasis and vibrate... you wont be able to shake them by hand
