I have the Rspec3... I used 6 shims. Just measure your clearances with 6 shims... if they're within the acceptable range.. then she's gold :)
Otherwise add/remove shims and try again.

Think I had 4 non-ford 'shims' (washers) plus the factory.
HLA wasn't falling out the arm, and I had no problems with lifter noise, drove it around like that for about, f**k, 15,000kms?

isn't it fun shimming cams? :) Ring jeysen, he's always happy to help. Make sure your getting the measurements + math correct. Took me 2 full days to put mine in. It's a head f**k, but you'll get there.

Ring Jeysen.

dont worry mate, had the same dramas with my R3 2 weeks ago. me and the old man were cursing at each other in the end but we ended up fitting 5 shims on both exhaut and intake rockers.

This left us with about 0.9mm and 1.1mm of adjustment on the exhaust and intake respectively.

Dont worry so much. i was worried too but started her up, heard those damn taps and within about 10 kays of driving she was all sweet

Now after 2 weeks all is sweet.

Hope i was of any help

How'd you go? Got it done?
My custom RPD is astage 1.5 basically, i had 3 shims on the inlet and 4 on the exhaust. My lifters kept falling out, i just taped them in. It's still rattly, but i think thats just the lifters themselves.
