I am thinking of trying a different camshaft in my EA.

A lot of articles relating to changing cams talk about fitting extra shims.

Can someone please tell me where these are fitted and why they are needed?

I will probably wish I had not asked this question when I see the answer! LOL

Thanks,

Chris

Shims sit ontop of the Hydraulic lifter in your rocker gear, They are held in with a little retainer clip.......... as to fitting with a cam, you only need to change them for some Cams......

For example, i fitted a crow stage 3 and left the shims alone...... started her up and i had MAJOR ticking sounds coming from within the rocker cover....... so i orderd in some 2.4mm shims instead of the 1.8mm ones i had in currently and changed them over....... and presto! no ticking what so ever
