1. el/au harmonic balancer.

2. ef-au power steer pump.

3. ef-el aircon pump i was quoted 38.50.

4. ef-el alternator.

5. xh tensioner

any prices would be good and thats for a 6 cyl engine 4.0

You didn't have to make 2 different threads about the same problem.

Another thing...why don't you pick up the phone and call them up and ask them how much it would cost?

Though I would reckon it would cost maybe $250 give or take. When you are replacing the pump, you will have to release the remaining pressurized gas that is used by the air con by a specialist. Then when you put the pump in, you have to get the air con system tested to make sure it is good and then re-gas.

Is it really worth the effort to change to Serpentine Belt?

And once again...Why did you open 2 different threads for the same question? Don't say you accidentally double clicked, cause they have different titles.

you must have double clicked lol. My advice would be wait until your current motor goes and then get a low K AU motor with all accessories at the same time. Would work out cheaper doing it all at once.

what do i do if the head cracks and/or head gasket goes and the engines done 200-300000kms at the time

As everyone else has mentioned...get an AU motor with all the accessories on it. That way you don't have to play with it later on. Just take out old engine and drop it straight in. Don't make things harder on yourself.

shonky12 mate the thing is that the ed and au are not interchangable with the front of the motor the AU engine will fit in with a little work.... but the fronts are different so if you convert a ed to the serpintime(spelling :P) you will still have to go get an au motor with all accessories as the ED bits won't bolt up.. i know this as i work at a wreckers and i was going to put an AU motor in my EB with the 3 belt setup as didn't really want to f**k around with changeing ecu and alike..... from my observation they are off the tinyest of bits to f**k the whole thing up.

hey
no matter what you do if you put a au engine in your car you will need to modify/weld the front of your k frame or sump.

also you need to modify a alternator bracket to fit a el alternator to the au block..
then you have the issue of the aircon lines . depending on what model falcon yours is. as ea and eb have different aicon lines and condensor compared to ef and up.

i would say that your looking at.
$100 for power steer pump.
$180 for alternator.reco
$50 for water pump.new
$50 for belt tensioner s/h?
$100 for harm balancer. new
$100 s/h-$350 reco aircon pump.depending on condition
$50 for belt.
$100 or more for condensor and aircon lines(if needed)
than you have the cost of a aircon regass $100-$200.

it will all add up in the end.
i would say your looking at anything from $500 to 1000 depending on the parts being new or second hand.
but once you have done it you must use the el thermo fans and radiator.
as the serpentine water pump has a different pulley and you cannot fit the std fan..

also

if your using the log type manifold you have to use the ed aircon pump as the ef/el pump sits higher and wont fit..

i think if your going to a conversion you should do the whole thing at once.
i done mine without using the bbm and serpentine belt at first.

and all the extra bits i brought seperatly for the manifold and serpentine belt conversion. it would have been much cheaper to do the whole conversion at once..
that way you can fit the whole engine complete with accesories and el manifold. that way you get the full advantage of that engine combo
the ef or el engine is a straight swap over and is easier to fit than a au engine..

but thats up to you

well am i better to use a xh aircon pump or modify the el aircon pump to fit and how do i bolt the aircon lines, do i have to use a xh bracket with xh/el pump with log manifold because im getting a ed fairmont and it has a trip computer and if i use bbm/el ecu i may have trip computer trouble but ive been told the rest of the electrics will work still no problems.

how ever if i do bbm conversion with the au engine can you give me a full guide in detail and how do i make the ed trip computer work with the el ecu if i go that way and is a late eb/ed aircon lines the same as the ef/el and i probably wont have smartlock troubles if i get a ed will i.

if your going to keep the log manifold you need to use your ea/ed aircon pump and use the xh bits .probably easier as you dont need to disconect or change your aircon lines.

and the ed trip computer wont work on a el ecu. i think its because the el trip computer gets iformation from the cluster not the ecu like the ed one.
the information is sent to the trip comp in pulses i think like a code.
and ( ..afaik eb has 2 codes and the el has 4 codes. im only going on information that was passed onto me. so i dont know how accurate it is)

i have my eb trip comp still conected with the el ecu but the ltrs per 100km reads 76 instead of 14 ..ive tried playing with resistors to try to get it to work but ive had no luck so far...
so its really just ornamental.(the clock and distance to empty still works)
and the ed has the same aircon fittings as ef and el. so if you have a ed you can fit a ef aircon pump and you dont need to change the lines..

your going to alot of trouble just to keep your trip comp..
the novelty will wear off after a while and you probably wont use it anyway..to get everything to work properly you basically need a complete el wreck to get everything out of.. that includes all looms dash. engine accesories ect.. so some would say you would be better of buying a ef or el to start off with..
sometimes when you modify things for performance reasons or to be different you have to sacrifice some things..
ive done the mods to my car because i can!! and i enjoy doing it.
but some people would rather just buy a later model car as i would rather retro fit a older car...

and you said (quote)i probably wont have smartlock troubles if i get a ed will i.(quote)
do you have a car at the moment? or are you about to buy one?

Stealing the Thread Here... But was i wrong with ED bits going onto an AU motor???? cause this has maybe sparked my interest again... i want an AU motor with the log manifold so XH Aircon mounts would fit on the AU motor and i can use my EB compressor and still run the three belt setup or will the water pump fuk me over.
