That is a question I can not answer... I hate that automatic climate control crap with a passion... If I had a fairmont I'd be pulling it out... I remember reading something on here ages ago about the error codes it displays... I think it is E and a number... How you get them I have no idea... There would no doubt be a chip in it that if it dies then yeah you'll find it impossible to get codes at all...

Have a read around and see how you go...

I have had this happen too. It was the high beam switch it had a small split in circuit board causing a short. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys

Well I guess the only way to find out is to take the dash apart. I'm getting a new engine fit to the car first then I'l have time to suss all this stuff out as well as doing the blue LED mod while the dash is out. By the way, does anyone recommend certain LED's to use for a simple swap over with the old ones that exist in the car already ?
