B series have a higher limiter, as they have 2-piece tail shafts.

Regulars and XRs can get to 235 (I think), my GT-P goes WAY past that at Oran Park's main straight).

as data_mine said, read this. Everytime some talks of removing the speed limiter, I automatically think of this. He was lucky he was on the dyno, if it happened on the rd, I think you'd be ending up on ogrish.

Location: Armidale

just a question, i recall an artical in Road and Track magazine when the EA was first released, and they had a manual S pack at the high speed bowl up to 240 kph which was 4200rpm in fith i believe or something like that, they never mentioned any problems with drivetrain vibrations, and they put in a full lap over 220kph in it, so did they change the drive shafts from EA onwards?

also myth bysters did a show on breaking a front uni while driving, they had a remote control car (real car) and broke the uni themselves and the drive shaft just dropped to the ground and rolled along the ground, they then wanted to wreck the car, so they dug a pothole in the middle of the road and did the experiement again, same result the drive shaft skimed over the hole, they got annoyed and made a deeper hole which channeled into a flat point, and instant sucess the drive shaft was drived back into the floorpan up into the boot, bent like a boomerang, bent the diff too from memory, but it took some effort, a friend of mine had this happen in a worked XW, nothing was damaged besides the driveshaft, and his ego as he was out of town a fair way and had to walk to get help.

the problem with the one on the dyno was the driveshaft had to lose its kenetic energy somewhere and it was bouncing on the ground, where as while your moving your applying forward motion to the driveshaft and it will continue to spin but wont get the bouncing motion as it would from dropping onto a solid object.

the main failure is the 4 speed auto extension housing the tail shaft will give some harmonic vibration at high speed but its usually the extension housing that fails destroying the tailshaft..
and the 5 speed and 3 speed auto ea did not have a speed limiter..
the limiter was introduced with the 4 speed auto..

B series have a completely different tail shaft setup too (it's a two piece).

Not stock it won't. Stock FPV's and HSV's are limited to 255.

i remember these pics just glad that u done that on a dyno and not on the roads but what i have also seen is if the tailshaft breaks and by chance it hits a pothole IT WILL come through the floor they tried it on mythbusters and it didnt look good at all
