Of late i have been thinking bout getting a stainless intake pipe made up. Is it worth doing? Along with that, would i gain much more with putting a sequential scoop on my bonnet? I have an xh xr6. Any info or other ideas would be appreciated

Depends...... $350 for one brand new..... worth it? Hell No!!!

Make one yourself.....worth it? ...... probably

Depends...... $350 for one brand new..... worth it? Hell No!!!

Make one yourself.....worth it? ...... probably
just make one yourself or have a exhaust shop bend some 3 inch tubing for you.. :wink: is well worth it over a stock intake..
oh and yes,the sequential scoop will aid fresh air flow just that lil better into your air box... :wink:

I cant feel (or measure) any difference in performance, but my car does ping when stressed out on a hot day with the steel intake.

Side by side next to a std intake it doesnt look to me like a 3" steel pipe has much more to offer.

probably right stockstandard... this mod is like a "cog in a machine".. needs other mods for full benifit like a cam and extractors and full exhaust... but its not just about sizes... but have you looked into the ef air tubing and seen how lumpy it is inside? not great for air flow surely.. the three inch mandrel isnt abot being bigger just more smooth and lees restricted airflow...

The engine had those modifications and more. On the dyno it actually lost a little power with a modified intake compared to std, but I have seen other tests done by members of this forum that showed as much as 2rwkw gains from these pipes (which I personally dont feel is enough of a gain to be classed as a gain if you know what I mean).

The inside of the EF pipe looks good to me with the exception of the accordion style rubber joiners between the two halves. I have seen some dodgy bumps inside of the EL/AU pipes though.

so would it be an ideal mod if could get one made up cheap enough? what material would it be better to use? alluminuim or stainless?

Also, where would i be able to find a sequential scoop and matching airbox lid?

mate the mod is worth doing,considering it improves the appearance of the engine, go down to your local exhaust shop and buy a 3 inch pipe

Find a mate with a welder and get the thing cut up and welded to fit or else it will foul the bonnet. Use an rubber boot from Ford to join pipes

most people I think do it for engine bay looks.

does improve my engine bay looks... like your bodykit on your car malloy.. but di do a before and after and found as much as 4rwkw gain on mine... :wink: so i was sold.. and no.. wasnt on a "jim mock dyno" was at "joes" down at canberra...

yeah ive been keen to pick one up, just to fancy up the old bay, and have been reading up on kw it can give you and throttle response etc its fair interesting to get peoples views on it.

Hey matt! I second that I also gained 4rwkw on joe's dyno by changing the intake pipe to 3' stainless steal got the sheets to prove it! Hey molloy go VENOMhaha
