after 197k i'd say the fuel system needs a clean.

new injectors and filter on the cards for you i think mate. go the au ones. got mine from Injector Co. on ebay. good service too.

deffinatly sounds like if the revs take a while to fall, theres a fuel starvation prob. does the car start easy?

probably need a new oxy sensor too after 197k there only really built for about 100 or so

Would a 3:27 EBII LSD Diff in an ED Fairmont be likely to change the idle???

^ Is that a serious question?

If so - no...

Otherwise - yes.

The fuel filter and air filter are both brand new, also changed plugs 1000km's ago..

might put my au injectors on to see if i get an improvement with the revs..also it starts first go everytime..never had it not start first go..

im pretty sure its the engine mounts so ill start hunting around for them..and hopefully its the leads & maybe injectors that are causing it to drop the revs slowly..

i doubt the leads would cause the thing to drop the revs slow like that. does it take time to crank till it catches i mean

get a multimeter and do a resistance test on them. not sure the exact number but something like 18k ohm is too much, chances are they need to be replaced anyway too

check all your vac lines. the back of the one on the fuel pressure reg is a good one. and the one to the brake booster. have a good look as the cracks can be hard to see. suck on them even.

could the bad idle be causing the mounts to fail insted of the other way around maybe?
