i had this problem in both my ed and ef.

it turned out to be the steering column bearing a quick fix is to spray either silicone lube or crc into the needle bearing but obviously the best way to fix it would be to replace the bearing

Have you been quoted on how much to replace the bearing?

Bearing is not replaceable, look around for a good second hand steering column assembly or possibly a new one.

The bearing is just a rubber bush and will either be slipping out of its position or will need some lube.
Dry rubber on steel isnt a good combo.
It wont need replacing, just lube it.

The column has a needle roller bearing in it, and I can replace them with new ones. I have columns here ready to go. Anybody interested can pm me.

Is the needle roller bearing at the top of the column, because i only saw a rubber bush on my eb at the bottom near the floor and this was causing my problem?

needle roller at the bottom.

I just killed mine pulling the subframe out without removing the steering bolt. I forgot it holds the linkage together. I just loosened it thinking the linkage would slide off as I dropped the engine out.

I have a spare collumn but now i have to remove the ignition barrel to keep the keys all matching. damn it.
