Hey fellas, Im curious about the standard exhaust.

I'm wondering if there is much restriction in the mufflers on the stock exhaust... I was thinking of removing a muffler or so.. If it would give an increase in fuel economy that is, I don't really want it to be noisy.

Car is an EF Fairmont with an AU motor.

a cat back exhaust on a stock motor isnt going to gain you any power, and if your not gaining any power then you wont gain any fuel economy...

although on the other hand a good set of extractors would see increased economy... but im sure they would rust out before you can recoup the outlay in savings :)

out of curiosity, what is your average fuel consumption like?

Lol yeah I was pretty sure the only gains I would see would be out of a nice set of extractors, Maybe later lol

well my consumption is very good so I probably shouldn't screw with this car...

Highway: 7-7.5L per 100
Town 11-12L per 100

My combined economy is 10.8L at the moment with average speed of 42km/h

Stock factory mufflers were triple pass.....XR6 mufflers were angular pass, straight through.
Std factory exhaust were 2&1/4", XR6 were 2&1/2".
Go figure.

i got an old street ford mag with a NA6 AU falcon. Stock it pulled 97rwkw and with the 2.5" catback it pulled 106-107rwkw. So there is an increase but mainly up top.

yeah that's true.

I wouldn't mind an exhaust on the EF just to give it some more poke, But I dont want it to have noise.

XR6 should have a 2.5" press bent exhaust, std are 2.25" press bent.

For the money its not worth removing a box or two, just get a catback with 2 mufflers.

I think down the track, I'll get a some tuned length Extractors + a quiet exhaust.
