If I take mine off can I use the same existing gasket. Anything I should be wary of before I take the cover off?

???? engine type, if its a I6 4.0l then maybe if its not damaged, same applies if its a cork one , but normaly you'd change them
|

I'd always recommend changing them unless it had been done only very recently.
Gives you that little bit extra confidence.

I've had mine on and off many times on the same gasket.
Only thing to be wary of is making sure it goes back on right. The #6 rockers have a habit of grabbing the gasket as you put the cover back on.

yeh, im usign same 10yr old one after my cam change. new one wouldnt sit flat, and leaked.. causing other s**t, so the old one went back on, no leaks

i have reused my gaskit a few times, no hassles except what data-mine said, had that happen to me once.....
anoying to refit, just be carefull to keep the gaskit in place. p.s. if its an ef/el, dont fit the gaskit in tight as youll end up with heaps left over, its a loose fit idea. Rushed |

yeah as said above, If the gasket is relitively New it should be fine, If your going to replace it make sure you go for the best kind, Dont get cheap cork s**t, get a good Rubber one from repco or something

a good tip on refitting it if it is an EF or later with the silicon gasket, is to put some small dollops of bearing grease in the rocker coer then put you gasket in the rockercover, the gasket will stick in the grease until you take it off next time.. the things have a habit of dropping off ½ way through installation otherwise.
