Mate from what you've said:
Stage cams are full of s**t: specs count
as for carb, unless you have got a real horsepower monster a 465 is the go. Can give you specs on an engine we built for my brothers TE that used to regularly embaress HSV owners at the drags if you want...but this sort of HP ain't cheap

BTW good to see someone on here that doesn't beleive that falcons are the be all end all of Fords

for the engine - usual cam, carb, and exhaust mods all help. With a 5 speed you can go 3.7-3.9 in the diff and still have a good street car.

If you want to put a big holley on it I have a cain manifold for a 250 iron head. Pretty big next to an std XF manifold.

couldnt agree more.

if you only want to go mild/medium with the cam then use a 2bbl weber and manifold off an xe/xf falcon. they're a factory fit for the alloy heads and legal whereas a holley isnt. they also have perfect drivability and economy which a holley doesnt. if your is a cast iron head, then try and find a E2 head of an efi falcon as the valves and ports are heaps bigger. secondhand these bits are pretty cheap. that and a set of extractors and u'r away.

fitting a T5 into a cortina isnt a 5 minute job. the tailshaft and speedo cable will fit but the shifter sits further back and depending on how u mount it, the gearstick will foul the handbrake handle. u'll need to cut a section out of the floorpan and chassis rail. also this makes your console pretty much obsolete without major modification. it's not difficult but dont expect to have it bolted up and ready to go in a few hours.

at the end of the day, it all comes down to what u want to spend

The faster you wanna go, the more its gonna cost. Turbo six, V8 conversion, all lotsa dollars, and lotsa go.
