yeah well i guess this is all the joys of buying a second hand car, didn't know how old the hoses are.

But yeah as martin said if id checked the operation of the coolant sensor i would have been no worries.

Yet another of life's nasty little lessons

How do yhou check the operation of the coolant sensor?

i would assume just unbolt the reservoir and tilt it until no coolant is over the sensor, and look on the dash to see if it goes on

dude, a mechanic serviced it 2000 k's before hand, it had brand spanking new coolant in it and had been out on the road for only a week.

I was previuosly of the opinion that what ever i fix now i won't have to fix it later, but i just fixed the head the other month.

Before i had the XR i had a N13 pulsar, dad gave it to me for free, a month later spent 2,200 on head gasket and new clutch, 6 months later it dumps all it oil and throws a bearing. it now lives in a wreckers.

you should have put an entire heater hose and rad hose kit on it when the head was done.
YOU should have asked for it to be done
