Well tonight I was having a bit of fun with my 290,000km old car, auto gear box held in 1st... I bounced it off the rev limiter once (just one bounce) and now I hear a "tap tap tap tap tap tap" noise from around cylinder 5 on the head...

It's fairly loud... I'm thinking lifters / valves.....

I checked the oil, plenty there...

I'm hoping it goes away by tomorrow morning, I'm pretty sure something up in that area can take a while to bleed down or something...? lol

Otherwise I'll probably just pull the rocker cover off and sus it out a bit..

Anyone know what exactly it could be?

Alright so I pulled the rocker cover off today, the noise is coming from the intake roller rocker on cylinder number 5... 99% sure of that after testing with a hose held near the part, and put to my ear, the noise was loudest next to that rocker... and also when I felt the rocker... the noise was in time with the rocker moving..

And now I'm not sure whats next...
What do I have to do to fix it?

Are the roller rockers and lifters different parts?? or same part with different names??

The rocker and the lifter are seperate items. The actual lifter sits inside the rocker arm (at the end of the rocker which sits above the valves). If the noise is in time with the rocker moving up and down id suspect a stuffed lifter. I dunno if worn rockers would make a similar ticking noise but if the rocker(s) have any excessive movement it could be something you might wanna look into..

The first time i got lifter tick was when i was thrashing my car around and almost bounced off the limiter between 2nd and 3rd, after that the car sounded like a diesel engine :lol:. Although, i did change the oil not long after that to something a bit better quality and it seemed to have fixed the lifter ticking issue for a while

I did let it cool down over night, next morning was still just as bad as it was.

But I'm now thinking of putting everything back together and heating it up a second time... hopefuly it fixes like yours does :P

The oil is 4000km's old... so I don't really think it's time for an oil change...? I was gonna leave it for 7500 or even 10,000km's.

But if its definitely a lifter, and I buy 1 of these;

Would you's recommend buying new retainer clips also??

I say save your money on the retainers... I just use tape to holdem in till I have it ready to tighten and then I just take off the tape and nip them up... easy.
