well if yo u sit an XR6 next to a 165kw xr8 the xr6 wins.

it's nothing to expect that 162kw i6 ghia would be faster then a 165kw ghia.
they both picked up about the same weight

I don't think its that simple though.
The XR8's only had 3.23 diffs, whereas the XR6's got 3.45's.
I was lead to believe that all the Ghia's 6 or 8, both got 3.45's.
It levels it up a lot.
They would be neck and neck the whole way, but who's wants all the head gasket problems.......

i'll take the gasket once every 180 000km over heads with ports you'd find it hard to f@rt through

O.K. I'm home and according to Wheels, here's the facts:

EF GLi (4.0) vs EF Fairmont Ghia (5.0) vs VR Exec (3.8) vs VR Calais (5.0)

EF GLi 4.0 with 3.08 diff = 0-100 in 8.9, 0-400 in 16.6 and 100-130 in 6.8
EF Fairmont Ghia 5.0 with 3.23 diff = 0-100 in 9.8, 0-400 in 17.2 and 100-130 in 7.5

Every 180,000km. Keep dreaming.....
Take your head gaskets, at least the parts are changable and can cop a beating, the sixes just overheat and blow when they've had a hard time. Just remember, don't ever let your 6 get very warm. Or kiss goodbye to your head and gasket, there goes close to 2k for most people.
s**t heads vs design fault with the head with the bolts being spaced too far apart. To anyone smart enough its a no brainer.
s**t heads on the 8's, still as quick as a 'good' 6 with head gasket problems.
Personally thats my reason why I bought an 8 and not a 6.

thats funny My EF did 190 000 on one gasket. dads EB 170 000 on one gasket. and in the 13 years dads had the EB the only time it over over heated was when a hose burst and droped it coolent. my ef has never had a cooling problem since i've had it.

and as for an 8 being as quick..i chalange any one with a stock e series XR8
to race. I'll put all the stock parts back on my XR6. we'll see who's faster.

by the way the AU headgasket fixed the problem. i've seen many AUs with over 200 000km on the factory gasket

I'll take those odds
I'll even let you keep your extractors, exhaust and bigger CAI.

Mate, you'll open up a can of worms here :)

I have to agree though. While I've heard of people with head gasket problems, my car has never had them and the three other e-series Falcons I regularly see have never had problems. One has even done 180,000+ kms...

haha, a Series 2 EL XR8 would show up any E Series XR6.
Not to mention the ED Sprints.
Yeah the heads can last, but why be worried about a car that is prone to doing them. I overheated my ED once, the fan belt broke and heat went into the red, before i realised. 3months later, a head gasket and then the head had a crack across it. I'd rather not have the hassle or worry. You and your Dad have beenlucky, but they've still all done a head gasket!!!
Who ever said anything about the AU's anyway???
Yeah Ford did fix the heads on the AU's, its just another god damn patch up job. They don't fix the motor design, but they patch up the fault.
