ive got a billet surecam in my xr and ever since i got the head ported n polished with surecam HD valve springs ive had a really bad ticking noise but it never used to tick before with the cam in it, thinking it was the tappets i took my rocker assembly of and put it on my mates ef and put his rocker gear on my car and my car is still noisey and his is still quit with my rocker gear.

ive tried thicker semi synthetic oil as i normally run mobil 1 but its gotten worse anyone had this problem be or know what i might be??

Cheers.

it could be ur lifters and stuff. cause my car is ticking and i changed the oil grade and now its stopped on a stock cam. but people have said it might be lifters. but im not 100% sure because im not a mechanical guy.

this might sound silly but could it be an injector?

just a thought.

get a piece of hose bout 60cm-1m long and run it along the rocker cover/head and see if you can pinpoint where the noise is exactly.

my injectors tick loud as F**k.
at one point i thought it was my lifters
but realised it wasnt when my lifters actually started to tick lol.

i have tryed it actually, used it yesterday to find which pully was rattling on mates car... was gonna use it to find my ticking lifter, but it stopped ticking by the time i got the hose.

pissing into the wind is useful, if you want piss on ya feet ;)

yeah what i have noticed that the injectors make a slight different ticking sound then the lifters.. i had that light ticking sound and placed some injector cleaner in and all gone.. but my el wasnt to bad condition.. so i was lucky i dont have to replace the injectors..
