OK so the cold to warm weather has killed my old battery..

I don't want an el-cheap-o battery, but nothing to costly, I have been looking at the ultima range, so something around the $130 mark..

thoughts, suggestions? what to stay away from.

Cheers

I would recommend a Deep Cycle battery of some description like an Optima, Exide Orbital etc.
I know you've said you don't want anything too expensive but for the reserve power these things have got I would have a serious look at them.

At the start of winter my battery died and I lashed out and bought an Optima .... damn .... what a difference it made. The engine had never cranked over so fast before and finally I could run my car stereo for hours on end and still be able to start the car :)

Exide Orbital it is.. not wrong about the thing cranking over hard and fast. I can actually leave my stereo on for more than 5 mons without the battery going dead too!! what a bonus.. old battery as 7 years old!! should I apply to guiness records for long life?

I lashed out an bought an Optima Yellow Top fopr the work ute ... dedicated LPG.

The thing cranks like you wouldn't believe .... had an issue ages ago with a stuffed solenoid in the converter which keep flooding the engine on start up ... after about 20-30 minutes of repeated cranking I maanged to start the ute .... the battery didn't slow down either.

PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS D34

Cold Cranking Amps at 0°F - 750
Marine Cranking Amps, 32°F - 870
Reserve Capacity - minutes** - 120
Capacity (c/20 rate) - Amp Hours** - 55
