i took the timeing cover off today to replace the gaskets.

bugger of a job when the harmonic balancer puller don't work, :? ,but any way, once i got it off i noticed the lower damper was missing and theres scuff marks of the cover where it should of been..

now should i put one back or should it be ok with out it,,the motors been running good just leaking oil from the front somewhere..

and the sump does need to be dropped down,,which i'm going to do in the morning so i can put the cover back on..

if this don't fix the leak then it's the sump gasket,,but i have noticed theres oil on the bottom of the air con compressor,,how would it get there ?

If you can get one I'd replace it, that damper also prevents the chain from dropping off the crank, if you need to remove the head at a later date.
