Ok just wanted to hear from some of you guys on the forum about what tow rigs you have and whats good about them and whats not....

Also what setup of car trailer or modded trailer you have for towing for cars???

Main reason i ask this is i may keep my ED 4L and transform it into my tow car...

Cheers Bryan

I use a 1998 Ford Explorer XT for towing. It's a manual with a 4L V6. These things are dirt cheap these days, far more powerful than the equivalent LandCruiser/Patrol that you'll get for the same dollars (however the Explorer is no competition in the bush). Saw a 1998 model with the full luxury leather interior the other day for $6,000.00ish, I'd imagine they're even cheaper on the mainland.

I use my EF XR6 wagon for towing and it does it well - I have had the car for 8 years & have only just replaced the clutch for the first time(230Km's) + the pedal box.

The car trailer that i have weighs 520KG's & has straight axles (no suspension) - which is good for the low ground clearance for stability & ease of getting cars off & on. It has a maximum weight capacity of 2300KG's, The only thing i would change would be to fit electric brakes - It currently has hydraulic brakes or fit a bigger bore master cylinder - But the electric brakes will limit those who want to borrow it....
