Well, if it was the mechanics mistake - you shouldn't pay anything. Was driving when you took it in there right?

if they managed to connect the battery in backwards, there could be quite a bit of damage

:( the stereo keeps blowing fuses, i was down there again today, and i noticed that the tx fuse had blown and also the fuse on the back of the stereo, i think its starting to become more clear that the bem is gone, because the smartlock doesnt flash and the remote for the doors and boot wont work on it

Dont check anything yourself as they may hold you liable for any further damage and even the damage the mechanic caused. As others have stated "they caused it so they should fix it"

We seized a VS commodore about a week ago, we had to supply the customer with a loan car, fix the engine and everything for zero cost.

that's the right thing to do. as professionals being paiud for the work, it's ridiculous for customers to expect mistakes never to happen, but at the end of the day if it's the mechs fault or in there car or whatever they need to do the right thing.
