its a waste of time.. nless you have done alot of other mods...

Cold air intake..
3 inch mandrel bend intake..
extractors..
2.5 inch cat back exhaust...
engine work...

the throttle body alone on a stock motor will make s**t all difference...

hey matt,

would you like to do a swap of throttle bodies to see once and for all what the difference really is? and if it works ill buy it off you since your selling up soon!

if it works on your engine and not mine, it will show that a decent sized cam and some headwork is not enough to make the mod worthwhile, and whether its worthwhile on ANY of our N/A engines at all....

if you go too big does it reduce throttle control?

will be interesting to see a comparison

we will do this trial and ill post up dyno charts and let you know how different it is to drive, if at all...

throttle body tested will be a standard TB at 64mm against a 70mm aftermarket TB

lots of people have had opinions in the past but no evidence, lets see what happens!

Bigger throttle body will result in airspeed reduction, equating to a loss of torque, and ultimately a loss of power through the bulk of your rev range.

The ONLY time you would consider an upgrade is if you thought the T/B was severely hampering your peak power figures. I reached 180RWKW n/a with a stock T/B and manifold - so I'm sure there's still more in them.

Then theoretically on a stock(ish) SOHC falcon the TB is too large and you would in fact be better off with a smaller unit?

you will only gain a little at top end nothing more down low and midrange will be the same

The stock engine runs out of puff just over 4500rpm, so yeah - why not just let the T/B choke at that point and increase low/midrange torque? I'd say you'd get a better quarter mile time - probably wouldnt look as impressive on the dyno. But lets be realistic, who drives the streets on rollers? :)
