anyone got any ideas why the f**k my car wont start after simply changing the dizzy cap n leads??....it turns but it dont kick over :evil:

Check for spark if no spark make sure coil lead is properly fitted.

can someone simply tell me from the front of the rocker to back....the lead positions?

The cap has cyl. numbers on it. Follow that (use a torch if you gotta).

My Suspicion would be that you changed the base timing somehow. Ive noticed a few cars with loose dizzys recently - wouldnt be hard to do.

i would say one of the clips on the dizzy is not on correct, leads not put on right, ie wrong order, or rotor button fell off !

From the back of the rocker cover to the front is 6,5,4,3,2,1 :)

HI

most distributor caps have the cylinder number stamped next to there correct post positions and the firing order for a I6 ford is 1 , 5 , 3 , 6 , 2 . 4 and the rotor button rotates clockwise looking down into the distributor

check firing order is correctly fitted on urs

standing infront of ur vehicle the cylinders numbers are 1 2 3 4 5 6

Question did u undo the distributor clamp to the engine block if YES u have to reset base timing

how do u reset base timing? You cant simply look onto the cap n see the printed numbers coz the plugs cover em and the bloody thing is covered by millions of intake parts...what s**t me is...we permanent markered the numbers onto the plugs so we knew but by the time we got em in the engine bay it rubbed off, cheap a** texta even wants a go LoL

looks like you may have to pull it all out and start again. some times it might be easier to use strips of tape or something rather than a pen.
Its a pain in the a** i know. When i replaced my leads i used genuine ones which are numbered

Make sure the cap is sitting down evenly. If the key isnt quite in the right spot, it can lif one side and you'll be cursing!

Since you say that you've got spark, I'd say as already mentioned, you're firing order is not correct. Take off the intake snorkel, and unbolt and move out of the way the ISC solenoid - this will give you room to get your hand in around the distributor. Pull the leads off the cap, and remove the cap - look at the cap - no1 cylinder post will be next to a raised slot which is used to locate the dizzy cap when it's fitted - if you imagine a line through the clip retaining points on the cap, this raised slot sits at 90 degrees to that, and sits on the front edge of the dizzy (radiator side of dizzy). Fit the cap, and with one hand feed the leads through between the inlet runners, and with the other hand, fit them to the posts in the order 153624, clockwise (looking down on the cap) - this firing order is also cast on the inlet manifold plenum, in case you forget :D . Don't forget to fit the coil lead, check the cap and the spacer ring are fitted secure and seated properly. Motor over and see if she fires . . . . . (ensure the snorkle and ISC are refitted):o
