can anyone help me with setting the cam timing on the VCT head there is an arrow and a straight line where do they point to when the crank is at TDC? The line is 90 degrees clockwise of the arrow (IF THE ARROW IS POINTING STRAIGHT UP THE LINE IS LEVEL WITH THE INTAKE SIDE OF THE HEAD IS THIS RIGHT?)

hmm mine only has a dot and a line..
it will be the mark that is in line with the cam dowl...

dont worry about the line.. when fitted to a au engine there are yellow chane links that the lines match up with when the engine is in a certain position to help with alignment of cas and crank position.

here is a pic of my cam gear..

So the dor goes where the ed timing mark is? or the dot goes level with the intake side of the head?

i think your getting confused???

the ed cam gear mark is normally just above the intake side of the head / rockercover gasket surface..
and the dot on the au cam gear also goes just above the intake side of the head/ rockercover gasket surface..

now if you look at both the timing dot/mark is in line with the cam dowl aswell..

ok so no matter what as long as the motor is TDC on No1 and the cam dowel is at 3 o'clock (inlet side) the timing should be right(arrow/dot) and the line goes where or is the line on the cam gear not relevant?

damn AU parts are confusing me

yes.. the line on the au gear is not relivant when using it on a ed..

the thing that makes it confusing is the ed cam gear has a line on it..
and the au has a line and a dot..
but yes as you have stated above is right..
and just to be sure the valves on no 1 cyl should be closed when on tdc on compression stroke
