Hi All,

I have a leaking VCT solenoid on my AUIII...a common problem it seems! Ford has quoted $270 for a new solenoid.

My question is for those who have actually done a VCT solenoid swap...

I've done a search and it reads like a pretty easy process. Apparently it's a matter of unscrewing it anti-clockwise, then replacing with the new and re-torquing to 30NM.

Is it as simple as this, or is there more to it? Any tips, or suggestions as to how long it should take? I'm having some other work down at the mechanic's in a fortnight, so I'm wondering whether to knock this over myself, or just have him include it with the other work.

Cheers!

Joe

Anyone done this? My service manual indicates that the rocker cover needs to be pulled off for th solenoid swap over, but from what I've read you can change it without rocker cover off...

Surely someone has done this! There's a few threads about leaking solenoids, but not much detail...anyone replaced their solenoid?

Thanks Troy, no worries! I think I'll just try unscrewing it as is, unless I hear othewise. Hopefully its straight forward. I'd thought that lots of people would have done this, and have some tips.

By the way, my w2a system is in and all plumbing (air/water) is hooked up. Just have to wire the pump and thermo in (so currently I'm running an interheater!), which is happening Monday fortnight. It's going to be controlled by the motec. I'll post some details in w2a thread when its running.

Cheers,
Joe

It just unscrews and replacement is the reverse.

Great thanks fellas. I've ordered a solenoid for Monday, so should be a quick swap in that case. I'll take care to observe the 30nm when re-tightening.

Cheers,
Joe
