Ordered a wade 1604 and would like a venier timing gear.

My question is: Does it need to be specific for the cam grind x, or can I just go down to repco and get any old one?

Well id assume theyre all the same as people just do a direct swap, cam for cam, no need to swap gears.

Vernier cam gear is used to dial the cam in properly/correct timing. If you want the most out of your cam then I would suggest you get it. Go to your nearest auto store and ask for a set for your car.

You don't need it per se, hence why some people do direct swaps. However their timing will be out; by how much who knows!

taken from an email recieved from crow cams:

hi fraser the vernier gear pt CS6EA-V trade price incl tax $150 we would
send it on aust air $12.50 you can purchase our products thru
coventry/repco/national parts & many other places in WA rgs wendy

my response:

Hi Wendy
thanks for that - is it necessary to have the timing chain etc? does it
serve a real purpose or is it a waste of money?
cheers
fraser

and reply:

hi fraser you proberly should be changing the t/chain it has 114 links if
you count the dots on it it will be 114 and it is a double row.usually the
genuine gears are not steel but these ford ones are so the crank gear
doesn't really need changing i would buy a verniers gear and the timing
chain we dont sell it seperate but your should be able to buy one in WA you
would ask for 3DR114 = double row chain 114links this chain is a universal
pitch & is the most popular chain used double or single.i spoke to steven
moore at cov's at morley yesterday & they do sell retail but said if you
ring him he will look after you his no. is 9276 0200 & is in engine parts
dept it might be more convinient for you rgs wendy

hopefully that might help you in some regards! :P
