hello i was wondering if any of you guys could help me out in something. lately i have had problems with erratic idle and very high fuel consumption. i have gone and cleaned the throttle body(on the car) and replaced the iacv and that seems to have fixed the idle.. however i am still having major problems with fuel.. the car seems to be drinking it faster than i drink a bottle of coke!

the trip computer is telling me that the average fuel consumption is at 17.5l/100 the instant reading goes from 99 at idle to around 60 to 70 while driving at about 60 along a flat it seems to be jumping around alot. my wife filled the car today put in 40 dollars worth of fuel and the fuel gauge read it as a 1/4 full normally 40 would give me half a tank... i am so very confused what do u guys think could be the problem... is it the injectors? o2 sensor? tps? ???? any help would be so very much appreciated/ thanks in advance

Shaun

Ps. oh and if this means anything i have a pod filter on the car and its making tiny little popping noises at idle just after you rev the engine... my mechanic (who isnt really a mechanic just a whizz kid with cars) says that everything inside the motor is in good knick and should not have anything to do with valves or any of that stuff.

Have you tried another map sensor? With consumption like that I'd be looking at the map or a blocked cat. I was using near 22 litres and now I'm down to 13-14 per hundred and still not quite there yet shows up with faulty HEGO/O2 sensor code despite being a new O2 sensor, I'm thinking all the carbon from my engine running rich a few months ago has killed it and I'm up for another new one haha, but that sensor doesn't affect economy that bad as far as I'm aware. Have you tried a diagnostics?

Almost all of my economy issues came from combination of a dodgy MAP and TFI module. Then there was the fuel and air filters, minor vacuum leaks and seized caliper slides.

i'd be looking at the cat first and foremost. If its burnt or collapsed, your going to get the symptoms you are experiencing.

o2 sensor is one of the first thing I would look at and change when fuel usage is an issue...

Yep, change the o2 sensor........even though you think they're ok and go about changing everything else they end up being the source of most problems.
Don't change it out for a second hand one either, buy a new one.
