Give it a full service, advance the timing if possible and run premium? I don't really know what else sorry...

Weight reduction is your friend. All that indestructible Swedish steel must take it's toll on a 2.4 engine.

This is the only real decent looking Late 70's early 80's Volvo I have ever seen and liked and which is a Volvo 2 door 242GT.
But like others have said their is Volvo that sometimes gets to or use to get to the Drags at Western Sydney. The owner had dropped a 350Chev in to it. Ultimate sleeper that chopped everyone that cared to challenge :D

Learn to spell LITRE correctly is a good start.

Two hats and a box of tissues on the rear parcel shelf is good for 10kws, venetian blinds add straight line stability as well.

find yourself a 9 inch grinder, and convertiblise it!!!! takes all of 15min to do.... then remover the springs and shocks entirely and you have yourself one pimped ride... consider some chrome spray paint for the rims and you'll be ready for the chicks in no time

modding paddock bombs is fun, it always ends in butchery,

Run a bit of PVC pipe off the aircleaner snout and towards the front of the engine bay,

cut the mufflers out and replace them with straight bits of pipe (or make sidepipes that come out just behind the B pillars)

remove anything that looks heavy and isnt needed (like everything in the interior except the dash, and front seats)

get someone who knows about cars to remove ALL the anti polloution gear

if your gonna drive it like you should drive a paddock bomb, put a rollbar in it - you probably wont roll it but it does happen

Mmmm paddock bombs. We have painted one with racing stripes cost absolutely nothing as paint was sourced from my mats grandparents. As for the side pipes i am interested in this. But we have done the weight save mod, change oil, new coolant, petrol, and a fe wothers. Custom crash damage (ofcourse its custom) broekn headlight mod, blacked out taillights on one. Yeah i'll get pics and stuff. But i have a few videos of our blue car before mods doing a donut, but its on my mobile so yeah.

not free but cheap, a set of extractors, they are good for releasing about 30% more power!! seriously, I used to sprint one and this is the easiest way to get more go out of the engine,, btw nice buy from EBAY... I was watching that sale.

I got a mate with a 242gt, its a 79 model, they are a 2.3l ohc they were good for about 125kw, pretty pokey 4 pot, they are a high comp engine, about 10.6:1 off the top of my head, a turbo manifold from a 7 series bolts straight on, but better off doing the whole running gear, with a little more boost and a decent CAI you can easily pull almost 210kw out of them,

the old 244gl that ran the 351, I know the guy who used to run it, the car was dismantled as he used the engine for another project, something more light weight, from memory the car was good for mid 12's

just some useless info for ya.
