my dads VE is absolutly woefull when you try to feather the throttle. the drive by wire is simply not sensitive enough down low to coupe with around town driving. it jerks and is very unpleasent to drive at slow speeds and from lights. it kind of jumps away.

falcons with drive by wire arnt as bad are they?

Yup. VZ with the 190 alloytec had a really 'doughy' acceleration. Was meant to be fixed in the VE :\

The G6E I drove was a bit slow to respond to kickdown overtakes, but most of the time I just had it in D. In performance mode it was much better.

The falcon boxes have adaptive shift when in drive. Give it a couple of hard accelerations and it will learn.

No, the B series fly-by-wire is nowhere near as bad as it is in VZ or VE.

And it can be made even better with a flash tune.

yay for adaptive mode, it does learn and adapt pretty dynamically and fairly fast to learn.
perf mode is good to, the old 4spd has come along way.specially with the sequential.

how does the flash tune make it better ?

With a cable throttle, you move you're foot and the throttle butterfly moves instantly, and in a linear fashion to what your foot did.

With fly-by-wire now, you move you're foot, the ECU get's a signal of where your foot now is, it thinks about what you're asking it do to, takes into account current traction/stability control, rev limiter, torque 'tags' (limitation) and more, and will move the throttle butterfly to a position it thinks is best. This may or may not be a linear relationship to where your foot moved too. Non-XR/FPV models have a rather non-linear acuation. XR's are better, and FPV's better again, But it's still not 1:1 like a cable throttle will give you. A tune can change this, to make it more (or less) responsive to your liking.

Traction control is B series is implemented, by closing the throttle off irrelevant of where your foot is (rev limiter on the 8's at least is done the same way). Also on the autos the throttle is backed off slightly on up changes to keep things smoother.

I know your are very knowledgable and i dont wish to question that, however Standard cars and Non Turbo XR's have the same pcm software, thus meaning they would have to be the same wouldnt they?

I welcome questions. So no need to apologise.

I'm not 100% sure on that, the only XR6 n/a I've driven (a BF) certainly felt better to drive than the various BF Futura's I've driven. May be all in my head however.

I usually forget the n/a XR6 when talking about XR's anyway. IMHO you'd be silly not to spend the few grand extra and get the T or 8. But that of course is not for everyone.

I've just checked my big bad list of Ford ECU codes (44,000+ of them). And it appears there is no ECU difference between regular I6s and the XR6 n/a code.
