I couldn't find anything on this... Sorry if it's been put up before.

I have a 98 NL fairlane concord, Brought it in jan and i am still fixing the little peoblems and s**t...

Anyway, When i brought my car, it got hot if i sat at traffic lights for a while, get up to about 3/4 and engine fans would turn on. And i'd have to drive for a bit before it would cool down. It was like this For a while. I replaced the Cap, a colder themostat.

That helped quite a bit.

Was like this all the way upto Drag Day. I noticed after Drag day that the car runs cooler. Doesn't make it to the L in Normal(L cold, N hot)..

After lettin it run for a day in the workshop, no air flow, it refused to get hot, DIDN'T use any water, i did find a blown fuse.
I even disconnected the fans, STILL didn't get hot.

Go a New cap, Checked that the lines hold pressure(they did)..

Drove home 45min drive, and needed water by the time i was home.

Now i'm doing a 20min drive and needs water!

I'm F**KING angry at this piece of s**t!

Thanks if ANY ONE can help me....

Cheers Parker

blocked radiator. (internal)
blocked radiator (on the air flow side)

water pump failure

poor injectors? (clogged? damaged oxy leaning the motor?)

timing WAY too far advanced?

I thought Mayb it was Block(Radiator)

But now it runs "Cool"

Having the radiator cap off, you can see the water moving around, and theres no noise from water pump... So i guess thats alright.

Car still runs fine, no smoke, doesn't use a lot of fuel either...

Timing hasn't be changed and i've done 30k so far... still runs fine.

OH and NO water in Oil....

the i6 should be fine with a 91 thermo.

a faulty temp sensor? (not uncommon)
you are using gycol in the coolent?
no weap around the thermo housing?

sorta sounds like the coolent is leaving the motor THEN overheating

and could be a blocked cat. makes the engine heat up like a b**ch, aparently your getting an exhaust? becasue its f**k?

nah nothing wrong with exhaust... I just want a nice note to my car.

Temp sensor as in the bit which gets the read out on the dash? (Sorry they were the best words i could think of to describe)

Ummm Gycol... No don't have any of that... :S

No weep, no leaks, no pressure!

Car stays cool, It's not the heater core either...

Oh... I don't think it's over heating bcoz as soon as you stop the car, jump out open the radiator cap and stick ya finger in, it doesn't burn :D

*Der der i'm a smart one*

sorry...

ANYWAY

PUT GYLCOL IN IT!

the water is boiling and pushing the cap up most likely. the gylcol wont boil till 130 degress or something. its the green s**t you see

the temp sensor is the senor under the thermo

I'd take the radiator out 1st, reverse flush it ie hose in the top outlet - water backout lower- new thermostat and gasket ~$15 - while the themostats out reverse flush motor.
Then put in some ethanol-glycol 1L Concentrate. Easy
Good luck

bowsaw... I do use it, but at the moment it's using like 3ltr per 15~20min drive...

Radiator is two years old, But yes i will try flushing the system out, i want to put a hotter themo back in too...

Today i brought While looking for gycol(Didn't know that was the stuff in coolent) a "Radiator STOP LEAK" lol sucked in i guess....

Anyway Hopefully i'll be doin this work to my car 2moro. And hopefully my 11 bucks didn't goto too much of a waste!

Thanks for the help

Still open for ideas...

Parker

Make sure you use a genuine thermostat as the aftermarket ones are not reliable for long if at all . :D
