hey guys, my el fairmont has a pffftttd creaking noise on idle it seems consistant
maybe every 2 seconds.
i have swapped the belt tensioner, serp belt, isc, plugs, leads, cap ,rotor arm & relearn got rid of alot of the vibration.
put my ear on the rocker cover,
but cant tell exactly where its comin from.
i mean what can creak
timing chain/guides? tensioner ?waterpump?injectors?powersteering?dizzy?worse?
can i run the car without a belt to rule out pumps ??
it also vibrates in gear a bit still and when i move the wheel it misses.
am wondering if the missing and creak are related
if i use a feeler to temp bump up idle to high the vibration goes but creak stays.
thanx mystro :)

ok this morning i found vac pipe is disconnected from the charcoal canister.
i think it should go to the bbm ,thing is there is nowhere for it to go.

can anyone confirm that this hose should plug into a f piece with the pcv hose next to the iat??

there is a very small amount of oil which seems to be originating from where the wp ,timing cover and head meet.
it is settling on the rim of the sump.
i cant tell whether or not its comin from the tensioner aswell yet.
pics will be up soon

im finding it hard to get a quality video of the noise .
the noise is coming from the front of the engine at the height of the water pump .
i cant here the noise at the back of the wp .
i pulled the tensioner off my donor car for part and practice.
the stock came out in one piece ,the spring dropped on the ground,
and i had to pull the rest out with my pinky.
the ring disintergrated so i guess i will need to buy one of these before atemtping to change it .
im off to take the rocker cover again to have a good look down in the there for broken guides

ok finally got the balls to run the car with outta belt and NO creak.
should i be pointing the finger at the water pump??
the screw driver listen trick works awesome
injectors all sound same, dizzy cap ticks a fair bit, powersteering sounds smooth, only creaking noise coming from near front of water pump when belts on .
i have a spare w/p .i will swap it over when the cars cool
will try with the old serp tensioner just incase i got them mixed up ...
