A mate with a EF has cut this vacuum hose and inserted a Turbosmart boost controller on it. He says it is a special trick and adds maybe 5kw (I laughed).

I'm not entirely sure where it leads and what it does. Can anyone help with this "trick"?

I don't know what he is thinking to have come up with this idea... His other car is a turbo r31 skyline. So that may explain somethings (atleast it's better than a VL).

But does anyone know where it leads to and what it is suppose to control?

That is the vacuum line to the purge cannister, and most of the time, the inline solenoid is closed except under certain conditions. End result.... wasting his time with the boost controller.
