1604 shouldn't turn you car into a lumpy, hunting beast.
Try the XR6 ECU, but still I would suspect something isn't quite right.

I have the same problem with my car.

I was told to turn up the base idle screw a little and / or replace or clean the idle control valve.

I'm doing it next week.

Will let you know if it fixes the issue...

nar mine is all good the cam is designed with a 60 degree's over lap from the intake lobe to the exuast lobe at idle most of the fuel and air goes straight out the exast (eyeburner) its a speedway cam, it has f@#$ all of anythink down low but up over 2800rpm it makes serious power. the sound gives me a mechanical horn.

Unfortunatley mine does this to, and there is no aftermarket cam in there. I think it might need the timing adjusted???? even though it was done after the head gasket was done, might just need some slighty advanced timing.

Anyone got any ideas??

could be idle speed controller, that is the first thing i'd try.

If i unpug my map sensor and it still does the smae thing could i assume that it is the MAP sensore that is faulty??

Have u ever raced your car at the Wangaratta Speedway track? Thats where we race our Standard Saloon, but from what I'm hearing about your engine, I think your in a different class than us.

Yep, nice feeling/sound. Had to set my base idle to 950rpm though.

And at times taking it out of gear, it'll rev itself to 2800 sit there for a while then slowly come back down? WTF is with that?

Giving itself a pat on the back for a job well done?
NFI!!!
I get a blap when it goes to neutral, but only to 1000 before it stabilises.

Thats interesting. My car has the ISC blocked off so its not doing anything, but at times when I pull up at a stop sight or something, the car will rev up to 1100-1200 or so for about 5-6 seconds, then drop back down to idle at 750. It must be a fuel thing doing it, because the computer can't adjust the air. Its very interesting.
